Tachograph Calibration Manipulated – Operator Keeps Licence at Traffic Commissioner’s Public Inquiry

Laura Newton appeared before the Traffic Commissioner representing an Operator who had received an unsatisfactory Desk Based Assessment and where it had been found that the tachograph calibration in one vehicle had been manipulated to allow a higher speed tolerance. Following evidence being challenged from the DVSA Examiner and the Operator giving evidence himself, the Traffic Commissioner was not satisfied that the allegations of tachograph interference and dishonesty on the part of the Operator were made out. We had assisted with early intervention to address shortcomings from the assessment to show that the Licence undertakings were now being met in full. The Operator was given a verbal warning only with the Licence allowed to continue.
