Replacement Transport Manager Saves the Day at Public Inquiry
The operator in this case, represented at Public Inquiry by Barrister, Harry Bowyer, was a family firm. Father was the director and the son was the Transport Manager. Much of the transport managing took second place to the running of the business and by the time of the call in letter there was little evidence of compliance. One of the PMIs was described by the Traffic Commissioner as, “the worst I have ever seen,” for the number of driver reportable defects it contained. The operator had seen the writing on the wall and had taken the decision to recruit an extremely capable transport manager in place of the existing one and this was just sufficient to save the licence subject to a curtailment.
