Driver facing 6 Offences of card pulling receives short 5 week suspension

This driver, represented by barrister Helen Newbold, was called in front of the Traffic Commissioner after the DVSA had found 6 instances of removing a driver card for the purposes of creating a false record. The Traffic Commissioners statutory guidelines state that the starting point for each offence is a 4 weeks suspension of the professional licence for up to six offences, leaving this driver facing a potential 24 week suspension.

Helen Newbold took the driver through the evidence presented by the DVSA and the Traffic Commissioner accepted that the explanations given for 4 of the offences were plausible, although still below the level expected of a professional driver. Overall he was persuaded to step back from the recommended starting point and imposed a 5 week suspension which was to start immediately.
