Driver Avoids Suspension for Bridge Strike

A driver was called before the Traffic Commissioner following a bridge strike whilst driving their LGV. Represented by Lisa Lyden-Cowan, the driver gave their explanation and mitigation was put forward to the Traffic Commissioner on the driver’s behalf.   The Statutory Guidance indicates the starting point for a bridge strike is revocation of the licence and a 6 months’ disqualification.  In this case the Traffic Commissioner was persuaded it was appropriate to move down from the starting point to a 1 month suspension of the driver’s vocational licence which upon further submissions was deferred for a period of three weeks to allow the driver the best chance of retaining their employment.
