Application for Licence Granted in Full Despite Director’s Five Year Stretch for GBH

The sole director of this company, represented at Public inquiry by barrister Harry Bowyer, was convicted 15 years ago of an offence of Wounding with Intent for which he was sentenced to 5 years imprisonment. The police raised objections to the grant of the licence applied for on the basis that such a conviction was not and could not be spent and that the operator was therefore not of good repute.

It was clear that the director had not been in trouble of any kind since the conviction and had taken a number of steps to rehabilitate himself including qualifying as an HGV driver and passing his Transport Manager CPC. The Traffic Commissioner was impressed with the efforts made over the last 15 years and granted the licence as applied for.
